It's almost been one year since our beautiful bride Mary traveled to Ireland to marry her beau Donnchadh. But, we've known Mary for over two years. We met Mary at the launch of our Fall/Winter 2016 collection back in September of 2015. When it was time for her to pick her wedding dress, it was our honor to have her be an Edith Élan bride!
Mary + Donnchadh
The wedding took place at The Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Ennis, Ireland. The reception happened at the Temple Gate Hotel down the street. In the midst of it all, they (lucky for us) made sure to stop by the the ruins of Clare Abbey and the Cliffs of Moher for some amazing pictures. Their New Year's Eve wedding was the perfect way to ring in 2017!
The Bride Wore...
Mary wore Heathe from our 2016 collection. She added a little extra shoulder bling, and she opted for a bracelet train loop instead of a bustle. So vintage and so charming!
Why she chose Heathe:
It was serendipitous really - my friend Sam Crews, Kickstarter, and an Edith Élan launch party all helped me find the dress. I hadn't shopped for wedding dresses before and I wasn't engaged when I first saw *my* dress. The dress is glamorous and timeless in an old-hollywood 1930s way.
What about the dress caught her eye:
Heathe is beautiful but it wasn't until after I started looking at other dresses that I knew it was perfect for me. Once I was engaged, I started wedding dress shopping. Many wedding dresses started to look the same - and I found I didn't want a strapless ballgown with big flowers and lace, etc. I remembered seeing Heathe and realized I couldn't find anything that compared to it. After I was able to try Heathe on with a veil, I looked and felt like a bride.
What advice would she give to brides on the dress hunt:
Make sure you are comfortable in your wedding dress. When you try it on, sit down in the dress. Wave your arms around, do a little dance in the dress (or do the robot, if you are super cool and talented.) If you plan on wearing this gown to your reception, and don't think you can do so comfortably, ask yourself if this is a smart choice... or if you need to have two dresses. :)
An Irish Wedding Blessing:
May you have love that never ends,
lots of money, and lots of friends.
Health be yours, whatever you do,
and may God send many blessings to you!
Happy first anniversary, you two!!!
