Find out what bridal trunk shows are and how they work!
“Bridal trunk show” is an all too familiar phrase for those of us in the wedding industry. But as a newly-engaged bride, you might feel overwhelmed with all the new lingo that now surrounds you as you start your wedding dress hunt. Don't worry though! We're here to help! So, grab a glass of your favorite wine, sit back, and read on about the ins and outs of a bridal trunk show.
What is a wedding dress trunk show?
First and foremost, a wedding dress trunk show (or a bridal trunk show) is a limited time engagement. It's when a bridal boutique hosts a select style of dresses from a bridal designer for a limited time.
The showcase designer might be a designer they already carry or a new designer. And the styles that are sent are usually chosen by the designer. Whether it’s an existing designer or a new one, trunk shows are a chance to see and try on styles that are not usually available at the boutique!
In our case, we send along the newest collection plus a handful of favorites from collections past. This applies to trunk shows starting after Fall bridal market and going into the following Spring. If a store or bride requests styles that aren’t on the trunk show list, we will do our best to accommodate the request!
How do bridal trunk shows work?
A trunk show starts when the dresses arrive at the bridal salon that’s hosting. And they’ll hold on to them until the last day of the trunk show.
The designer and store agree to the length of the show. So, it might be as short as a weekend and as long as several weeks! But once the show is over, it’s over. The styles that arrived get packed up and shipped onto the next bridal boutique that’s hosting.
Disclaimer! There are instances when the trunk show is extended, but that’s not always guaranteed to happen.
Another thing to note is that during the trunk show the bridal boutique might have an incentive. That special offer applies to when you say "yes" to a style from the specific trunk show designer. It might be a discount, a free veil/accessory, a gift with purchase, or something else.
Whatever the special offer is is left up to the boutique to decide. But once the trunk show ends, that special offer is no longer valid.
